The MCM 2007 is the first international Conference of the newly founded Society for Mathematics and Computation in Music (SMCM). The conference is jointly organized by the National Institute for Music Research (SIM), Berlin and the SMCM. The Foundation of this Society in behalf of the Editorial Board of the new Journal of Mathematics and Music is the result of a long communication process between researchers in the transdisciplinary field between mathematics, informatics, music theory, composition, musicology and other disciplines. The application of mathematics to music and music research is already anchored in several types of scientific meetings. The conference of Mathematics and Computation of Music now intends to establish an enlarged communicative basis for all researchers working in this field.
